Apple Fitness+ is expanding into gym-based strength training and AI-powered coaching with new features designed to deliver personalized workout programming, performance tracking and coaching insights. The development brings Apple's fitness platform further into the commercial gym environment, where digital training tools are increasingly competing with traditional workout programming and personal training services.
The new Gym Strength feature, arriving in the iOS 27.3 developer beta, allows users to create adaptive four-week strength training programs based on their fitness goals, available equipment and training frequency. Separately, Apple is introducing Training Note, an Apple Intelligence-powered feature that provides personalized coaching, progress updates and milestone recognition.
The additions extend Apple Fitness+ beyond its established library of instructor-led workouts and into more individualized training experiences designed for use inside commercial fitness facilities and at home.
Gym Strength generates programs based on the number of weekly sessions users can complete and the muscle groups they want to prioritize. Workouts contain five or seven exercises, lasting up to 60 minutes, with recommendations for specific exercises, sets, repetitions and weights. Users record their performance, allowing subsequent workouts to adjust throughout the four-week training cycle.
The platform supports more than 350 exercises across over 30 categories of strength training equipment. Users can also request alternative exercises when machines are occupied or equipment is unavailable. Each movement includes instructional videos featuring Apple Fitness+ trainers demonstrating proper execution from multiple angles.
Training Note introduces an additional layer of AI-assisted coaching through Apple Intelligence, providing personalized feedback on training progress and recognizing milestones. The feature builds on Apple's existing Workout Buddy technology, which delivers AI-powered motivational coaching and fitness insights through Apple Watch.
For commercial fitness operators, the expansion adds another consumer-facing platform capable of delivering structured strength programming and coaching guidance independently of a gym's own digital services.
Members can increasingly access personalized workout plans, exercise demonstrations and performance insights through consumer subscriptions, creating additional competition for fitness businesses investing in proprietary member applications and digital coaching platforms.
While the technology does not replace hands-on instruction and individualized assessment from personal trainers, it could provide additional support for members who want structured guidance without purchasing one-on-one coaching.
Apple Watch integration allows users running watchOS 27.3 beta to view exercises, log repetitions and monitor heart rate directly from their wrist.
Gym Strength will be included in the existing Apple Fitness+ subscription, priced at $9.99 per month or $79.99 annually in the United States. The service is also available through Apple One Premier at $39.95 per month.
The feature requires an iPhone or iPad running the iOS 27.3 or iPadOS 27.3 beta, with additional functionality available through compatible Apple Watch devices. Apple has not announced a general public release date beyond the developer beta.
The expansion reflects the growing role of consumer technology in commercial fitness, as digital platforms increasingly combine personalized strength programming, AI-assisted coaching and wearable integration within the traditional gym experience.
