Eight Sleep has introduced Hot Flash Mode, a new feature designed to deliver immediate cooling relief for women experiencing nighttime hot flashes. The feature is part of the company’s newly launched Women’s Sleep Initiative, a multi-year effort to advance sleep science and technology for women.
Nearly 80 percent of women going through menopause report experiencing hot flashes at night, yet women remain underrepresented in clinical research. Eight Sleep aims to address this gap through original studies and AI-driven product development.
Hot Flash Mode allows users to activate rapid cooling through the Eight Sleep Pod with the tap of an embedded button. In pre-launch testing, 8 out of 10 women reported relief within 10 minutes, and 78 percent found it more effective than other solutions. All participants said they would be disappointed to lose access to the feature.
“Women’s bodies change dramatically over time, and as wearables become more popular, it’s important to recognize that data is not enough when looking to solve the challenges that we encounter during sleep,” said Alexandra Zatarain, Co-Founder and VP of Brand & Marketing at Eight Sleep. “We recognize that it’s time to use technology to solve women’s sleep challenges, and we are starting with hot flashes, one of the most common and disruptive symptoms of menopause.”
The Eight Sleep app now includes Hot Flash Reports, a new feature that tracks the frequency and timing of hot flashes to support more informed conversations with healthcare providers.
The Women’s Sleep Initiative also includes large-scale data collection, new adaptive Pod features for different life stages, and collaborations with experts in reproductive health and sleep science.
“Science has long overlooked the complexity of women’s sleep,” said Nicole Moyen, Ph.D., Senior Director of Science and Clinical Research at Eight Sleep. “We now have the data to start building solutions that reflect how women’s temperature needs shift through life, and we’re continuing to collect more, driven by our commitment to women’s research. This is just the beginning.”
Hot Flash Mode became available to all Eight Sleep members on July 22, 2025.
