Johnson Fitness & Wellness is adding Nike Strength Equipment to its U.S. retail assortment as the specialty fitness retailer expands its strength training category.

The rollout begins this month at 25 Johnson Fitness & Wellness stores and online, with plans to make Nike Strength Equipment available across all of the retailer’s U.S. locations over the next several months.

The initial assortment includes dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, racks, benches and accessories. Products include the Nike Grind Dumbbell, Nike Strength Shield Barbells and Nike Rubber Coated Kettlebells.

The partnership comes as strength training continues to account for a growing portion of the home fitness market. Johnson Fitness & Wellness said its own strength category sales have increased over the past several years as consumers invest in home gyms and incorporate more resistance training into their fitness routines.

“We are very excited to partner with Nike Strength Equipment, and their best-in-class assortment of strength training products. It is a fantastic addition to JFW’s product lineup, which amplifies our strategic commitment to bring exceptional strength products to our customers enabling them to reach their personal health and fitness goals,” said Bob Zande, President of Johnson Health Tech Retail, Inc.

The addition gives Nike Strength Equipment access to Johnson Fitness & Wellness’ physical retail footprint alongside its ecommerce marketplace, providing another distribution channel for the equipment business.

The assortment will also include products made with Nike Grind, a material created using manufacturing scrap, unused materials and end-of-life footwear. Nike Strength incorporates the material into products including dumbbells, kettlebells and bumper plates.

“Johnson Fitness & Wellness customers are becoming more invested in premium strength training equipment and we’re excited to bring them our innovative combination of elite performance and iconic design,” said Drew Conant, CEO of Dimension 6 Fitness and founder of the Nike Strength Equipment business. “We’ve developed equipment informed by how the best in the world train and elevated by Nike’s rich design heritage that will make any home gym stand out from the pack.”

The retail expansion comes amid broader changes in how consumers approach strength training. While connected cardio equipment played a major role in the growth of home fitness earlier in the decade, strength equipment has become an increasingly important category as resistance training gains broader participation.

For Johnson Fitness & Wellness, adding Nike Strength Equipment expands its offering within that category while providing customers with another branded option for building or upgrading home gyms.

Following the initial 25-store launch, the companies plan to expand availability across Johnson Fitness & Wellness' entire U.S. store network over the coming months.
