Planet Fitness recorded its highest-ever participation in the High School Summer Pass™ program this year, with more than 3.7 million teenagers signing up. The free initiative, offered to teens ages 14 to 19, ran from June through August at more than 2,700 Planet Fitness locations across the United States and Canada. Participants collectively logged over 19 million workouts during the summer period.

The program is designed to provide access to exercise facilities during months when school gyms, fitness classes, and sports programs are unavailable. Planet Fitness estimated the cost of waived membership dues for 2025 at more than $168 million.

Colleen Keating, Chief Executive Officer of Planet Fitness, said the results reflect a growing interest among teens in fitness and wellbeing. “We are incredibly honored that more than 3.7 million teens chose to prioritize their health and wellness this summer at Planet Fitness,” Keating said. “Our record high participation is a testimonial that this generation embraces fitness and wellbeing, and we are proud to offer free access each year to help teens in our communities build confidence and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime.”

A survey of more than 6,500 participants and 4,400 parents conducted by Planet Fitness found that a majority of teens reported forming more consistent exercise routines during the program. Many also reported gains in confidence, higher energy levels, and increased motivation to stay active. Parents indicated that the program encouraged discussions about health and, in some cases, led to greater physical activity within families.

Hannah S., a participant from Illinois, said the program provided structure over the summer months. “Planet Fitness gave me a consistent and welcoming space to stay active during the summer. It helped me build healthy habits, stay motivated and take care of my mental and physical health,” she said.

The High School Summer Pass has been offered for several years and is now a regular part of Planet Fitness’s seasonal programming. With participation continuing to grow, the initiative remains one of the largest youth fitness efforts tied to a national gym chain.
