WHOOP has named NBA star LeBron James as a global ambassador, formalizing an 11-year relationship with the wearable technology company as it continues to expand its focus on health monitoring, recovery and longevity.
James, who began using WHOOP in 2015 and was among the company's first 100 members, is also an investor in the business. The expanded partnership will include global marketing campaigns, digital content and other initiatives focused on athletic performance and long-term health.
The announcement coincides with the 23rd anniversary of James' NBA debut. Now 41, James continues to compete professionally, with his approach to training, sleep and recovery forming a central part of the partnership.
"LeBron James represents the pinnacle of performance and longevity," said Will Ahmed, founder and CEO of WHOOP. "He was one of the first 100 WHOOP members long before anyone had ever heard of Strain or our Recovery Score. Now, 11 years later, we're so proud to have him as a global ambassador."
WHOOP reports that it now serves more than 3 million members worldwide through its subscription-based wearable platform. The company tracks physiological metrics including sleep, recovery and physical strain, providing members with personalized information about their health and performance.
The partnership comes as WHOOP continues to broaden its positioning beyond professional athletics and performance training into everyday health management. Its product offerings include WHOOP Age, a feature designed to help users understand aspects of their physiological health in relation to aging.
As part of the announcement, WHOOP released selected data from James' use of the platform. According to the company, James ranks among the top 10% of WHOOP members for sleep efficiency and has maintained a 100% device wear rate throughout 2026.
The company also reported that James recorded more than nine hours of sleep on his 40th birthday, alongside a recovery score above 80%.
"I've spent my career doing everything possible to keep my body at peak performance. For the last 11 years, WHOOP has been part of that," said James. "I know my body better today than I did at 25. I'm not trying to be great for my age. I'm trying to be great, period."
The agreement adds a long-standing professional athlete and existing investor to WHOOP's ambassador program at a time when wearable technology companies are increasingly incorporating longevity-related metrics and personalized health insights into their products.
WHOOP has not disclosed the financial terms of the ambassador agreement. The company says the partnership will be featured across its global marketing and digital channels.
