Planet Fitness Uses Heatwave Sentiment to Power $1 Membership Push

Planet Fitness is rolling out a seasonal promotion designed to boost member acquisition during the hottest stretch of the year. The nationwide campaign, running through July 31, offers new members the opportunity to join for $1 down and $15 a month, with no long-term commitment required.
The timing of the offer appears to align with recent consumer sentiment around working out in extreme weather. According to a nationwide survey conducted by Planet Fitness, 76% of Americans reported they would rather endure discomforts such as a root canal, jury duty, or an awkward family dinner than exercise in extreme heat. The company is positioning its climate-controlled gyms as a more comfortable solution for those looking to maintain their fitness routines.
“Planet Fitness offers a cool, welcoming environment where any fitness level can get a good workout,” the company stated in its promotional materials.
In addition to climate appeal, Planet Fitness is highlighting its broad range of equipment, including plate-loaded strength stations, cardio machines, Smith machines, and stretching zones, as part of its continued push to support beginner and intermediate gym-goers in a non-intimidating setting. Each membership includes access to certified fitness trainers and the brand’s mobile app, which features a library of digital workouts.
The company is also continuing its youth engagement efforts. Now in its fifth year, the High School Summer Pass program allows teens aged 14 to 19 to work out for free at any of Planet Fitness’ 2,700 plus locations across the United States and Canada. This initiative serves both as a brand-building effort among a younger demographic and a potential driver of long-term member conversion.
With more members than any other fitness brand, Planet Fitness continues to rely heavily on seasonal promotions and value-driven marketing to attract a broad consumer base. The brand’s messaging emphasizes accessibility, affordability, and a judgment-free environment, a formula that has helped fuel its growth as both a franchisor and operator of fitness centers.
