Artificial intelligence tools are increasingly being used to help people navigate health information, and ChatGPT Health is the latest example of that shift. The new experience introduces a dedicated space within ChatGPT that allows users to interact with health-related questions while securely connecting personal health data, including medical records and select wellness apps.

Health and wellness already represent a major area of use for ChatGPT. According to de-identified internal analysis from OpenAI, more than 230 million people globally ask health-related questions on the platform each week. ChatGPT Health builds on that existing behavior by allowing responses to be informed by a user’s own health information, rather than relying only on general guidance.

The Health experience is designed to support everyday health management rather than replace clinical care. It does not provide medical diagnoses or treatment recommendations. Instead, it focuses on helping users understand test results, track trends over time, prepare for doctor appointments, explore diet and exercise questions, and compare healthcare options such as insurance plans.

Health operates as a separate, dedicated space within ChatGPT, with additional privacy and security measures tailored specifically for sensitive health data. Health conversations, files, and connected apps are kept isolated from other chats, and health information does not carry over into non-Health conversations. Conversations within Health are not used to train foundation models.

Users can choose to connect medical records and wellness apps, including Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and other supported platforms, with explicit permission. Medical record access in the United States is enabled through a partnership with a health data network, and users can remove access to connected records or apps at any time.

The system was developed with input from practicing physicians across multiple specialties and countries, with the goal of shaping how health information is presented, when follow-up with a clinician is encouraged, and how safety considerations are handled. Responses are evaluated using a clinical assessment framework that emphasizes clarity, appropriate escalation of care, and alignment with real-world medical decision-making.

Access to ChatGPT Health is being rolled out gradually, beginning with a limited group of users outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Availability is expected to expand over time, with plans to offer the experience more broadly on web and iOS.

As AI tools continue to intersect with healthcare, ChatGPT Health reflects a broader trend toward consumer-facing technologies that aim to help people make sense of increasingly complex health information, while keeping clinical decision-making anchored with healthcare professionals.
